Illinois Lawyer Referrals and Legal Guidance
Attorneys in Kane County
Kane County is part of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit in Illinois (along with Kendall and DeKalb counties). There are several court locations within Kane County, including the historic Kane County Courthouse, located at 100 S. Third Street in Geneva, where cases in the civil division are heard. Felony criminal cases (and some misdemeanor cases), as well as family law cases, are heard at the Kane County Judicial Center, at 37W777 Route 38 in St. Charles. Misdemeanor and traffic cases are heard at several locations, including the branch courts in Aurora, Elgin and Carpentersville, as well as a new facility at 540 Randall Road in St. Charles. The Kane County Juvenile Justice Center is located at 37W655 Route 38.
The Kane County legal community is somewhat small, especially within each division. In family law, for example, there are only a handful of judges. For this reason, we usually recommend hiring a local attorney if you have a case in Kane County. An attorney who appears often in the courthouse where your case is being heard can have an advantage. They should know the judges – including their tendencies and pet peeves – and have a good working relationship with clerks, prosecutors and other attorneys in the local community.
Experience also matters. Within the Kane County legal community, you should try to find an attorney who has focused their practice and career on your type of case. This is true whether you’re dealing with family law issues, pursuing a civil lawsuit or facing criminal charges.
While we do not believe that there is one “best” attorney in Kane County, we do believe there is an attorney who is best for you, taking all aspects of your situation into consideration. Our goal is to match you up with an attorney who has the skills and experience to truly help you. In addition, we want you to actually like your attorney. So we only recommend those with good customer service. You should not have to wait forever to hear back from your attorney when you have a question, and you should never be left in the dark about what’s going on in your case.
