Lawyers That Defend People Before
the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations

The Professional Regulation Division of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is divided into two operating divisions, the license/testing division and the enforcement division. The license and testing division requires professionals in Illinois to receive, and properly complete, an application for licensure. The enforcement division is mandated to administer and enforce 46 separate legislative acts that regulate the conduct of many professions and occupations in Illinois.

Over 240 professions are regulated by the Division of Professional Regulation, from accountants, chiropractors, physicians, and pharmacists, to barbers, cosmetologists, dental hygienists, and nail technicians.

Some of the violations which professional licensees are subject to include: practicing unlicensed, practicing on a non-renewed license, failing to meet educational requirements, failing to report an arrest or criminal conviction, and engaging in unprofessional conduct.

Violations are extensive, and punishments may include termination of a license, revocation, suspension, probation, reprimand, and censure. In addition, Illinois law allows for the imposition of fines for any of the professions regulated by the Division.

However, the license may also be ordered to remain in good standing.

When a complaint has been made against a licensee, the Division's Prosecutions staff can decide to hold a formal disciplinary hearing. These hearings are held before the respective professional board or committee and the Division Hearing Officer. The hearings are predominately held in Chicago, regardless of where in the state the violation in question took place.

If you are faced with a violation complaint or disciplinary hearing, it is important that you have an attorney to defend you. It is even more important that you have an attorney with a track record of success in defending these particular cases. An attorney who:
