DuPage County Traffic and DUI Attorneys

If you get a traffic ticket or a DUI in DuPage County, your case will be assigned to a court location. The main courthouse in DuPage County is located in Wheaton, at 505 North County Farm Road. There are field courts (branch locations) in Wheaton near the main courthouse, as well as in Addison, Downers Grove and Glendale Heights. There are many, many attorneys who handle traffic and DUI cases in Illinois. There are a few things to keep in mind when trying to find the right one.

If your case is in DuPage County, we suggest finding an attorney who appears regularly in the courthouse where your case is being heard. Although any Illinois-licensed attorney can represent you in DuPage County, we think you have a better chance at success if your attorney knows the judges and prosecutors and has a reputation among them.

We believe a local attorney has a leg up on negotiating your case. You should expect that your attorney will completely analyze your case, looking for any possible defenses and leverage for negotiation. Their goal should be to get your charges or penalties reduced, or even to get your case dismissed. Many times, errors are made that result in erroneous tickets or illegal arrests. The attorneys we recommend are ambitious and dedicated to getting you the best outcome possible. They will not simply help you plead guilty.

After receiving a traffic citation, some people believe they can contest it on their own and represent themselves in court. Other people simply pay the fine and take the conviction. Neither of these is what we would recommend. If a family member asked us for help, we’d tell them the same thing: consult with an experienced defense attorney before making a decision about how to handle your case.

A traffic ticket can cost a lot of money, and a conviction will appear on your record and could affect your insurance rates. If you are cited for speeding in a construction zone or if you’ve received more than one speeding ticket, the consequences could be even greater.

A DUI conviction can change your life, remaining on your permanent record and affecting not only your insurance rates but also your ability to get a job. It can also result in jail time and high fines. Legal representation after a DUI is extremely important. Again, your attorney should do everything they can to protect your rights and your future. The same holds true if you are ticketed for driving while revoked or suspended as both offenses could result in jail time and often do.

Please note, after you get your ticket or are arrested, you will likely get flooded with unsolicited letters from Illinois attorneys that access public arrest records. While technically not against the law, we feel this is an inappropriate way to act as a lawyer. Although not all lawyers who do this are unethical, we have seen time and time again these attorneys offer insanely low rates to get a client to sign up, only to help them plead guilty and generally do not fight for them. We don’t know of any attorney we recommend who does this. We think law firms that solicit this way help lawyers earn their bad reputation.

If you need help finding a DuPage County traffic or DUI attorney, we can help. We know attorneys with significant experience in almost every type of traffic case. Give us a call, or send us an email and we’ll talk to you about your case, for free. If you need a referral, we’ll give you the name of an attorney who we believe is the best DuPage County attorney for you.
