Elbow pain is extremely common among workers or accident victims, especially when there is a traumatic incident or repetitive activity. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis as to the type of elbow injury that you have as each injury requires different medical attention. Many elbow injuries can be diagnosed through a MRI scan. Some common elbow injuries are:

Lateral and medial epicondylitis
Also known as "tennis elbow," lateral epicondylitis is the most common cause of elbow pain. The pain is generally located over the outside of the joint which creates difficulty gripping objects. Most patients with lateral epicondylitis are not tennis players; the condition is commonly seen in patients who use their hands for work or play, including tennis.

Medial epicondylitis, or golfer's elbow, is similar to lateral epicondylitis and causes discomfort around the joint. The basic difference is that the symptoms of medial epicondylitis are on the inner side of the joint.

Olecranon bursitis
Bursitis is most common behind the elbow joint. Olecranon bursitis usually creates a swelling and tenderness behind the joint over the bony prominence called the olecranon.

Tendonitis
Tendonitis can occur in any of the tendons that surround the joint. The most common types of tendonitis that cause elbow pain are biceps tendonitis (in front of the joint) and triceps tendonitis (in the back of the joint).

Cubal tunnel syndrome
Cubital tunnel syndrome occurs when there is compression of the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve wraps around the inside of the joint. Cubital tunnel syndrome causes pain around the joint and can also cause shooting pains along the forearm and numbness and tingling of the fingers.

Radial tunnel syndrome
Radial tunnel syndrome is also called resistant tennis elbow, and is a compression of a nerve in the forearm. It is similar to tennis elbow, but it is caused when the nerve that operates several muscles around the wrist and hand is compressed, or pinched. This causes weakness of the muscles supplied by the nerve and pain over the elbow where the compression takes place.

If you have any of the following symptoms, then you should see a doctor:
